We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.The RoleThe Electrification Solutions New Markets (ESNM) organization within Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) is seeking a Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) to help advance software built-in quality for GM’s next generation of embedded controllers.ESNM operates like a start-up within VMEC, focused on delivering battery management, inverter, and electric motor solutions for non-automotive and specialty automotive applications. This role will directly support GM’s expansion into emerging markets such as autonomous manufacturing, mobile power generation systems, stationary energy storage systems, specialty vehicles, watercraft, and locomotives.We are looking for a creative, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Software Quality Assurance Engineer who thrives in an agile environment and enjoys solving complex technical challenges. In this role, you will collaborate closely with product owners, developers, and test engineers using agile development methods, including Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), to define, create, automate, and execute software behavior tests that improve product quality from concept through integration.What You’ll DoDevelop and execute software verification strategies for battery management, inverter, and electric motor control systemsCreate, maintain, and automate test cases, test scripts, and comprehensive test plans across multiple system levelsPerform integration and verification testing with minimal direction from lead engineersAnalyze software defects, determine root cause, validate fixes, and verify closureSupport design analysis and testing for software and system changesDiagnose, debug, and resolve issues involving embedded software and related hardware systemsExecute tests in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) environmentsIdentify software anomalies, missed requirements, and performance issues early in the development cycleBuild robust test automation solutions using tools such as Python and JenkinsInterpret and apply functional, safety, and compliance requirements to test methods and setupsPartner with cross-functional teams to define effective acceptance criteria and meet program milestonesServe as a key troubleshooter for product integration issuesContribute to team knowledge sharing by documenting common issues, edge cases, and lessons learnedActively participate in the scrum team as a subject matter expert supporting Solution in Context, Solution in Isolation, and System TestingSupport software package evaluations through data reviews, simulation behavior testing, automation development, and test plan executionWhat You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field2+ years of embedded software development or software test experience2+ years of Python scripting experienceExperience reading and debugging source code in C, C++, and/or PythonExperience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, ideally using dSPACE ControlDesk, and/or software-in-the-loop (SIL) virtual test environmentsWhat Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Software, Electrical, or Computer EngineeringAdvanced proficiency in Python or similar scripting/programming languages such as C, C++, MATLAB, R, or VBAExperience with Software Quality Assurance in embedded systemsKnowledge of Agile development and built-in quality practices such as BDD, TDD, or MBSEUnderstanding of applied controls theory at the battery, inverter, or electric motor system levelWorking knowledge of the embedded software development lifecycleExperience with test automation, regression testing, and test procedure developmentExperience working in an Agile environmentExperience with CppUTestExperience with MATLAB, Simulink, and StateflowFamiliarity with communication protocols and tools such as Automotive Ethernet, CAN, LIN, ETAS INCA, Intrepid NeoVI/VSpy, and Vector CANoe/CANape#LI-SW1SPONSORSHIP: GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
