We sit inside the business — not IT — and our job is to rapidly translate operational challenges into working prototypes, analytical applications, and AI-powered tools. We work shoulder-to-shoulder with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and product development stakeholders to accelerate data-driven decision-making.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild Applications That Deliver Business ValueTake data products, ML model outputs, and AI agent responses and turn them into interactive, user-facing web applications and prototypes.Design and build both the frontend experience and backend services needed to deliver a complete working solution.Build interfaces that consume AI/LLM outputs — including streaming responses, multi-step reasoning, and dynamically generated visualizations.Create intuitive user flows for human-in-the-loop workflows — feedback, validation, approvals.Own the UI Experience for the LabServe as the team's go-to person for UI decisions — propose layout options, interaction patterns, and visual approaches for each prototype.Apply practical UI/UX sensibility to ensure prototypes are usable, clean, and understandable without requiring a dedicated design resource.Build and maintain a lightweight library of reusable UI components, patterns, and templates that the team can leverage across projects.Translate business requirements directly into interface concepts — sketching options, mocking up alternatives, and moving quickly to code.Move Fast and IterateOperate with a prototyping mindset — ship a working version quickly, put it in front of users, learn, iterate.Choose the right tool for each problem rather than defaulting to a fixed stack — the best framework is whichever one solves the problem fastest.Own your applications end-to-end — from frontend to backend to deployment.Collaborate Across the Digital LabPartner with Data Products Engineers on how data is shaped and delivered for application consumption.Work with Data Scientists to define how model outputs and AI agent responses are presented to users.Engage directly with business stakeholders to understand workflows, gather feedback, and validate that what you've built actually works for them.Proactively present UI options and alternatives to the team and stakeholders — you bring visual thinking to a data-and-model-heavy team.Keep It Production-Worthy (When It Needs to Be)Apply sound engineering practices — testing, version control, containerization, security basics — proportional to the maturity of each application.Know when a prototype should stay scrappy and when it needs to be hardened for broader use.Work with centralized IT teams for infrastructure, hosting, and production support when applications graduate beyond prototyping.Qualifications / EducationBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Design Engineering, or a related field.Experience & Skills Required3–7 years of hands-on software engineering experience with a strong portfolio of shipped applications or prototypes — not just contributions to large codebases.Strong frontend and UI development skills — modern JavaScript/TypeScript, component-based frameworks (React, Vue, or equivalent), responsive and accessible UI development, and a good eye for layout, spacing, and visual hierarchy.Solid backend skills — API design and development in Python or Node.js, database fundamentals, integration patterns.Ability to propose and execute on UI options independently — from quick whiteboard sketches to coded prototypes — without waiting for a dedicated designer.Experience building applications that consume and present data-heavy or AI/ML outputs — dashboards, real-time interfaces, data visualizations, or conversational UIs.Comfortable with the basics of DevOps — containerization, CI/CD, cloud deployment — enough to ship your own work without relying on a separate platform team.Excellent communication skills — you'll work directly with non-technical business stakeholders and need to understand their problems, not just their tickets.A builder's mindset — you default to "let me try something" over "let me write a spec." You're energized by ambiguity and speed.Preferred / Nice-to-HaveAn eye for design — experience with design systems, component libraries (e.g., Material UI, Ant Design, Chakra UI), or lightweight user research and usability testing.Experience with AI-powered applications — LLM-based interfaces, streaming AI responses, agent integrations.Experience in regulated industries — pharma, healthcare, life sciences.Familiarity with data engineering and data science workflows — understanding how data pipelines and models work, even if you don't build them yourself.Experience with rapid prototyping environments — startups, innovation labs, hackathons, or similar.Familiarity with design/prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch) — not as a designer, but enough to communicate ideas visually. What Sets This Role ApartYou're t
