Job TitleAssistant Health Physicist IAgencyTexas A&M UniversityDepartmentEnvironmental Health & SafetyProposed Minimum SalaryCommensurateJob LocationCollege Station, TexasJob TypeStaffJob DescriptionA Glimpse of the JobThis Assistant Health Physicist I position, with minimal supervision, is responsible for performing routine tasks, such as inventory management, lab setup, closure, inspections and reviews, etc.Essential DutiesInventory Report ManagementGenerates, distributes, and collects radiological program reports. This will include keeping compliance metrics, following up with non-responsive permit holders, following up on any permit holder requests or needed database updates, and track two-year storage plan programCoordinate with radiological waste team as necessaryRadiological Safety InspectionsAssists in performing the rad-safety inspections at remote sites using radioactive materials across Texas. This duty will require operating a University vehicle to locations on the College Station campus and remote locationsProvides expertise to ensure inspections are performed to RSO standardsAssists with all follow-up activities for radiological lab inspectionsSchedules and performs remote-site RAM inspectionsDosimetryAssists with distribution and pickup personnel and area monitor dosimetry badges to main campus and CyclotronCyclotron Institute SupportSupports the Senior Health Physicist stationed at the Cyclotron Institute in routine activities to include, routine and special surveys, contamination remediation, dosimetry, inspections, the development and maintenance of the written procedure HP manual, and other duties as assignedSurveys and InventoryAssists with performing radiation and/or contamination surveys and inventory verification at main campus and Cyclotron as neededWithout supervision, performs surveys and response checks, loads LSC, paperwork and report managementAssists with Cyclotron interlock checks and leak checks on sources as neededRadioactive Material HandlingAssists with receipt and delivery to lab of radioactive materials for the campus as needed. This duty will require operating a University vehicle to locations on the College Station campus and remote locationsTasks include cover lab, perform MDA calculations, perform package check-in procedure, and paperwork managementEmergency ResponseCoordinates emergency response and provides technical expertise for radiological incidents, as necessaryWhat You Need to KnowSalary: $22.99/hourCover Letter/Resume: A cover letter and resume will assist us in our review of your application materials. These can be uploaded on the application under CV/Resume.  Required Education and ExperienceAssociate degree or 60 plus hours of college hours in a related discipline such as Science or Engineering or fields such as Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering Technology, or any equivalent combination of education and experienceNo experience requiredRequired Licenses and CertificationsValid State of Texas Driver license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hirePreferred QualificationsDegree in a related discipline such as science or engineeringSome work experience, preferably working around radioactive materials and radiation producing devicesSpecial Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of environmental safety and health rules, regulations, and standardsAbility to multi-task and work cooperatively with othersOther Requirements and FactorsAbility to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment systemThis position is security sensitiveThis position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and proceduresAll tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirementsMay require night and/or weekend hoursMay require occasional travelInstructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A&M University must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
