Working within the Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure unit, this role will provide Physical/Dimensional calibration and repair of test and measurement equipment in research, development, and manufacturing environments.At Medtronic we bring bold ideas forward with seed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assignedPerform calibrations and measurements traceable to NIST and the International System of Units (SI) using properly maintained reference standardsCalibrate and inspect a wide range of test, inspection, and measurement equipment, from general-purpose physical and dimensional tools to custom-built sterilizer systemsSupport multiple metrology disciplines, including:Mass, Temperature, Humidity, VacuumLength, Optics, ConductivityPressure, Dimensional MetrologyForce, Torque, Flow, and othersCreate and revise calibration procedures by interpreting manufacturer manuals, laboratory methods, system requirements, and approved documentationCollaborate with equipment-owning engineers and technicians to:Schedule calibration activitiesProvide guidance on test and measurement equipment selectionLead adherence to documented Metrology department proceduresAccurately document calibration results in the calibration tracking database using validated templates and test point gridsIssue Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) and Nonconformance (NC) reports as requiredWork with data acquisition and validation equipment, including:Process controllersChart recordersDC analog/signal conditionersTransducersTroubleshoot, inspect, adjust, and repair test and measurement equipment in support of new and existing projectsProvide in-lab and on-site calibration support for equipment that is sensitive, immobile, or too large to relocateWork overtime as needed to support high-priority requests or project deadlinesMentor and share technical knowledge with junior technicians and department personnelTravel to other Medtronic sites within a 20-mile radius, as requiredMinimum RequirementsMinimum of 2 years of relevant experienceHigh School Diploma or GEDNice to Have2+ years of electronic or physical calibration-related technical school training (60 semester credits), including metrology and calibration, or equivalent military training (e.g., PMEL)ASQ Certified Calibration TechnicianStrong background in math, statistics, and physicsProven technical aptitude, including equipment setup and troubleshootingProficiency with:Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)Windows OSMinitab or other statistical analysis softwareIndySoft or other calibration tracking databasesWorking knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint interpretationExperience developing and validating MS Excel spreadsheet templatesExperience in medical device or other regulated industriesFamiliarity with DMAIC problem-solving methodologyStrong analytical, verbal, and written communication skillsAbility to prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives while managing multiple work requestsSolid understanding of calibration and measurement principles, including:Measurement uncertainty and traceabilityMeasurement standards and SI unitsTest uncertainty/accuracy ratiosMeasurement system analysis (MSA)Calibration intervals and out-of-tolerance reportingFamiliarity with applicable regulations and standards:FDA 21 CFR Part 820 (cGMP)ISO 13485, ISO 10012, ISO 17025Awareness of metrology and standards organizations such as NIST, BIPM, NCSL, ASTM, ASMEOrganized, detail-oriented, process-driven, and self-motivatedStrong interpersonal skills, professional judgment, and ability to perform well in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentFor Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.Physical Job RequirementsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.
