THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY POSITION TITLE: Social Worker ASSIGNMENT: Social Worker - Student Services MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree or higher in social work, school social worker, or social welfareBachelor's degree acceptable with current school social worker certification onlyCertified or eligible for certification in school social work by the Florida Department of Education or Licensed Clinical Social Worker by Florida Department of HealthValid Florida Driver's LicensePhysical Requirements: to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if requiredSatisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer candidates with school based experience.PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates in planning, developing and evaluation of programs and/or service to studentsParticipates in Child Study/Collaborative Problem Solving and IEP committees as needed to help meet the needs of identified studentsEstablishes long and short range plans based on student needs, District, State and Federal requirementsPlans, prepares, and utilizes appropriate intervention and integrated strategies that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiencesAssists in preparing for changing curriculum and service needsPrepares and maintains records as requiredWrites and maintains social work/advocacy services reports pertaining to referrals for special programsDemonstrates organizational skills by using time efficiently and effectivelyDevelops and maintains a directory of service agencies and specific contacts available to students and their familiesAssists in enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations and Board policyAssists in the early identification of students school related problemsPrepares and interprets social and developmental histories and assessmentsParticipates in evaluation of the effectiveness of programs and servicesObserves and interviews children in school and/or home settings, individually and in groups for evaluative and remedial purposesReviews periodically the comprehensive assessment records, IEPs and cumulative records of assigned studentAccesses student records on a need-to-know basis and protects their confidentialityServes as liaison between home and school to obtain, share, clarify, and coordinate informationHelps families understand and accept services from other community agencies when such specialized assistance is necessaryHelps ensure participation of parents in school conferences affecting their children through home visits, telephone contact, correspondence, and other meansHelps ensure parents understanding of decisions, procedures, and meetings affecting their childrenSuggests intervention strategies for teachers to use with studentsWorks cooperatively with appropriate community health, education, and welfare resources, sharing, obtaining and coordinating information, reports, recommendations, and activities for maximum use of all resourcesHelps to improve students attendance at school, which may include coordinating services with Children and Family Services, school office staff, parents and studentsProvides individual and group counseling with children and parents when necessaryConfers regularly with principals, teachers, other student service disciplines, and school specialists regarding children with learning and behavior problemsUtilizes effective consultative behaviors with parents, school staff, and teachers about ways to facilitate the learning and adjustment of studentsEnlists the cooperation of parents in examining the family situation and together evaluates the strengths and problem areasInterprets education policies, programs and procedures related to social work services/advocacyCommunicates effectively, orally and in writing, with other professional
