Job Description SummaryThe Lead Manufacturing Engineer will work in a production shop environment and serve as product/process engineer. The role will have hardware ownership and responsible for planning/execution. The role will impact departmental operations while providing exposure to lean principles and techniques. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesDefine and control production processes including tooling and equipment. Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment.Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team membersParticipate in the development of mid and long term plans outlining projects to support the business in meeting its objectives with a strong focus on cost, part quality and cycle timePromote internal and external customer satisfaction and develop positive design engineering relationshipsExhibit ownership and take responsibility in attaining all aspects of production operation including safety, scheduling, quality, and team development in assigned areasPlan and implement process-engineering activities for new product development and current product supportDetermine safe manufacturing processes that produce a quality product in the most efficient method of manufactureInvestigate and apply new technology in support of site growth plansAssist supervisors and production employees in resolving manufacturing process problems through a drive to root cause and permanent corrective actionConduct training, process planning, evaluate operating methods, select controls, and specifies tools, fixtures and gages necessary to repeatedly build conforming hardwareMaintain the manufacturing engineering system on part routing and standardsCo-lead efforts to maintain and improve shop floor quality controls and best practices with area Product Team LeadersExecute manufacturing related quality planning activitiesPursue continuous improvement for quality and cost reductions in designated areaAct as change agent, understanding and moving the operation toward benchmarked, best of class performanceTravel up to 10% or as neededRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years Manufacturing Experience)Minimum of 3 years Manufacturing ExperienceGE Leadership Program Graduate in lieu of experience is permittedDesired CharacteristicsStrong background in the interpretation of engineering drawings / specifications and manufacturing processesProcess control, improvement & escape prevention, technical requirements & process control, GD&T, blueprint reading, problem solving, lean manufacturingDirect experience with CNC machining and programming resistance welding, TIG welding, vertical/horizontal lathe, milling, heat treat, brazing, fabricationExperience with machining tool and fixture designs and/or improvementAbility to make data driven decisions and utilize Six Sigma and Lean toolsKnowledge of safety agency regulations, ISO / Quality proceduresEstablished project management skills.Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn​Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively​Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed ​Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative​Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinkerDemonstrated ability to work within a Team environmentStrong oral and written communication skills.GE Aerospace offers comprehensive benefits and programs to support your health and, along with programs like HealthAhead, your physical, emotional, financial and social wellbeing.
