REQUIREMENTS OF THE RN-POSTPARTUM:
Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources including time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.Maintain excellent patient assessment skills. Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice. The contracted RN will demonstrate proper preparation of patient s for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions. Evaluate effectiveness of self, care given by all health team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes. Perform/assist with clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established policies, and guidelines used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Evaluate effectiveness of self, care given by all health team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes.Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers and other clinic specific equipment.Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established Labor and Delivery protocols as prescribed in MTF policies and procedures and IAW JC guidelines. Contractor RNs shall provide proper care and evaluation of post-procedural patients.Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Will be knowledgeable in administrative requirements for the documentation of patient's condition, progress and acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.Demonstrated ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacts quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Must have the ability to obtain, assess, and report critical lab or diagnostic results to patient s physician in a timely manner.Demonstrated ability to act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.Can demonstrate and adhere to peri-operative, infection control and safety policies and procedures used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines.Schedules referral appointments, arranges for procedures, and performs telephone follow-up, as appropriate.Can demonstrate good time management skills. Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the coordination of health care team members, patient care, and unit activities.Demonstrate effective and professional communication methods and skills using lines of authority appropriately.Formulate and use effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and significant others.Practice effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making.Review and make appropriate notation on the chart of a patient at least once in an 8 hour shift, or per unit specific requirements.Perform other duties within the scope of RN practice as requested.Once provided with "hands-on"experience, demonstrate working knowledge and use of computerized systems, including Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Applicant (AHLTA), ESSENTRIS, MHS Genesis, workload systems postpartum.Provide care to normal and high risk postpartum patients (the MTF has approximately 80% high risk population, e.G. PIH, diabetes
