Our broad and deep client relationships, market-leading platform and intellectual insights enable us to be a world-class service provider to our clients for their financing, market access and portfolio management needs.Primary ResponsibilitiesMorgan Stanley's Equities Derivatives division is looking for a Core Strategist for its Equity Derivative Strat Team. Strategists are key participants, together with traders and salespeople, in the revenue-generating activities of our Sales & Trading Division. Core Strategists provide the C++ quant library platform on which new product-specific valuation models are written. They ensure speed, quality, consistency, and timely delivery of valuation models across all equity derivative products.We are looking for a strategist to expand our platform that automatically catches bugs in our C++ valuation models before they reach production. These valuation models are contained in a large library with dozens of active contributors which we aim to release weekly. To achieve this rapid delivery, we want to expand our use of automated tools to detect common errors early. This platform will use a variety of techniques including:Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Engineering, Quality & ModernizationLead engineering initiatives to improve library performance, reliability, and scalabilityBuild and enhance automated testing frameworks, including regression testing, static analysis, fuzzing, and property-based testing with randomized inputsImprove platform quality through:Code coverage enforcement and SonarQube quality gatesRegression test analysis to proactively detect issuesModernized test infrastructure for faster and more reliable feedbackContribute to platform modernization initiatives, including RHEL9 rollout, Bazel adoption, and C++20 migration with Docker adoptionBuild & Release AutomationEnhance release reliability and velocity by driving:Automated release pipelines to reduce manual effort and errorsSignoff automation to streamline approvals and ensure audit readinessAuto-bisection tooling for faster root-cause analysis and debuggingTest InfrastructureDevelop production-like test harnesses in Python, Java, or C++Support and optimize large-scale nightly regression runsData & InsightsTrack and analyze defect detection metrics (e.g., early vs. late bug identification)Use insights to guide testing strategy, tooling improvements, and coverage expansionCode QualityCollaborate with developers to eliminate recurring bug patternsRefactor C++ code to improve reliability, maintainability, and testabilityRequired Skills & Experience (Essential)TechnicalAt least 2 years of strong software development experience in C++Experience with Python or JavaExperience working in Linux environmentsSolid understanding of testing methodologies (unit, regression, automation)EducationBachelor’s degree in a technical field involving applied mathematics(e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics)Core CompetenciesAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentExperience working in cross-functional teams, bridging technical and design perspectivesStrong written and verbal communication skillsHigh motivation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentPreferred / Nice-to-Have SkillsKnowledge of mathematical optimization algorithmsExposure to cloud technologiesHands-on experience with C++ build, release, and testing frameworksFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and build systems (e.g., Bazel)Experience with large-scale C++ codebases or numerical/quant systemsImpactDrive engineering-focused platform initiativesImprove production reliability through early defect detectionEnable faster, safer release cycles through automation and modernizationMorgan Stanley is an equal opportunities employer.
