It covers functions across IED ranging from those associated with sales, trading, analytics, Strats to risk management.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Quantitative Research (QR) group designs, builds and maintains the models which drive the equity trading engines at Morgan Stanley. Our systems are used globally by both internal trading groups and clients of the firm. We utilize systematic, data-driven approaches to understand how markets work and put those ideas in action. The team spans the disciplines of finance, econometrics, statistics, mathematics, machine learning and data analysis, with many team members well versed in multiple areas. We are looking to hire highly talented, creative individuals who are enthusiastic about contributing to a leading-edge team, in an intellectually stimulating environment.We are looking for a Software Engineer who has experience in working with large data sets and designing, developing and maintaining the applications within the QR team.The expected working hours will be US hours:2:00 PM (local time) to 10:00 PM (local time) The key elements of the role are –Design, develop, test and deploy scalable full stack applications in a secure, high-performance environmentCollaborate with product owners, business analysts and other developers to understand requirements and deliver high quality solutions; write technical user stories which detail how business functionality is to be designed and builtWrite clean, maintainable code across both front end and backend technologiesIntegrate applications with APIs, databases and third-party systemsParticipate in code reviews, sprint planning and other agile ceremoniesContribute to the improvement of development processes, tools and system architecturesMaintain clear and comprehensive documentation of code, configurations and processesWorking with large scale global systems, datasets, and databases  Core RequirementsWe are looking for a confident and outgoing person, who has exceptional attention to detail and takes initiative.Engineering degree preferably in computer science & information technology with 5+ years’ experience in building distributed systems applying agile practices.Strong working knowledge of core Java and Spring frameworks including spring-boot and testing.Experience in owning and working end-to-end software development comprised of Backend and/or Data Engineering pipelinesProven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining robust APIs. Demonstrated understanding of API versioning strategies, backward compatibility, documentation practicesStrong understanding of managing and scaling high volume databases. Experience in Sybase, KDB+ preferred.Sound understanding of microservice architecture and design patterns, system resiliency, scalability, security, and observability.Understanding of secure coding practices and experience in regulated environments (financial services is a plus)Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically under pressureExperience with CI-CD pipelines, Git and DevOps toolsStrong oral and written communication skills.Complementary SkillsUnderstanding of the financial markets and the electronic trading businessWorking with large datasets and ETL pipelines for data warehousesUnderstanding of KDB+ or other databases, such as Sybase or Microsoft SQL ServerFamiliarity with database programming with q and SQLDevelopment in other programming languages, such as Python, C++Morgan Stanley is an equal opportunities employer.
