At 247 beds, LCH is the largest children's hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves high acuity patients as the flagship children's hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 30 different pediatric specialties. We have 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a 20-bed PICU (including Cardiac ICU), an 85-bed Level IV NICU,and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation floor. Levine Children's Hospital is also Charlotte's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, staffed by doctors trained in pediatric emergency medicine. Job Summary The Student Nurse Scholar I+4 is a participant in the Nurse Scholar Program and assists in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the licensed nurse. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment, and performs job responsibilities in a safe manner according to policy and procedure. Promotes a culture of excellence. Maintains position competencies as appropriate to the needs of the patient population served. Essential Functions Supports patients/residents with activities of daily living. Assists patients/residents with personal hygiene. Takes vital signs and height and weight measurements. Feeds and ambulates patients/residents according to specific procedures. Maintains patient/resident's rooms in a clean and orderly condition. Observes and reports changes in patient/resident conditions. Orients patients/families to unit and instructs patient on safety measures. Assists with clerical work such as, including answering phones, entering data and maintaining medical records. Maintains stock supply items in inventory management. Performs duties as outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide I (per North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide I Tasks List). Perform technical tasks with appropriate training such as administering a 12- Lead Electrocardiogram test and routine venipuncture. Trained in the following additional tasks, as outlined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) Nurse Aide I+4 process: Nutrition Activities Oxygen Therapy Peripheral IV Fluids Urinary Catheter Sterile Technique (*Additional requirement per NCBON for Peripheral IV and Urinary Catheter skills) Physical Requirements Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak and understand English in good understandable terms. Must have manual and finger dexterity. Education, Experience and Certifications High School Diploma or GED required. Currently in good standing in a Registered Nurse academic program. Minimum completion of first semester of Registered Nurse academic program preffered. Current listing with the NC Department of Health and Human Services Nurse Aide I Registry prior to start date required. BLS required per policy. Nurse Aide I+4 Course required: E-learning and instructor-led skills practice. Required observation activities.
