Conducts literature searches; reviews and compiles information from journals and suggests use for new techniques to the supervisor.Coordinates and carries out designated research tasks and projects making use of library research, structured interviews, data processing, and other investigative techniques.   Collects, organizes, and summarizes acquired data using scientific techniques, including computer programs; assists in judging the validity of the data obtained.Submits periodic reports of project status to supervisor, regularly suggesting additional tests and/or modifications in current procedures.If applicable, after appropriate training, cares for and/or monitors animals.  Performs or assists with surgery as required.If applicable, after appropriate training, uses radioactive, infectious, bio-hazardous, and/or toxic substancesMaintains, calibrates, troubleshoots and/or repairs laboratory equipment.  Alerts supervisor to defective equipment, and may schedule repairs and maintenance as needed.Orders supplies and equipment with supervisor’s approval.Organizes material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, progress reports, articles, and/or other documents for publication and/or presentation. Provides information and training on specific research techniques and equipment operation as needed.Oversees the activities of other research personnel as required.Maintains established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety and environmental control.
