Job DescriptionThe Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies has an outstanding opportunity for Research Coordinator to join their team.About this OpportunityReporting to the Director of the UW Center for Human Rights, the Research Coordinator is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of ongoing and new research in the Center. This position will conduct literature reviews and research to include collecting, coding and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, as well as writing, editing, and reporting research findings. The position will also assist in developing and maintaining relationships with off-campus partners, supervise undergraduate and graduate students conducting research, and manage the Center’s data storage infrastructure. The Center for Human Rights and this position is housed on the UW Seattle campus. Fully in-person work is expected for the first six months, at which time the position may be eligible for up to two days of remote work if appropriate and supported by the position manager. Key ResponsibilitiesResearch (55%)Work with Center Director to design and implement methods of data collection and analysisProvide leadership for organization and execution of quantitative and qualitative data collectionLead quantitative data management, analysis, and reportingAnalyze, synthesize, and report findingsProject Management (25%)Supervise student researchers involved in executing methodologyLead scheduling and facilitation of research team meetings, including virtual and in-person meetings Writing (10%)Co-author briefs and reports for internal and external audiences that summarize major findingsCo-author papers and dissemination activities, including virtual and in-person presentations Public Relations (10%)Work with the communication team on internal and external dissemination effortsAttend meetings and maintain relationships with community partner organizations and advocatesParticipate in dissemination activities, including virtual and in-person presentationsRequired QualificationsTo be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in a social science fieldFour years of experience in research with at least two years focused on topic(s) relevant to human rightsApplicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Department. Additional QualificationsDemonstrated commitment to equity and justiceExcellent multicultural communication skillsFamiliarity with social science research methodology with qualitative and quantitative analysis and codingPreferred QualificationsSpanish language skillsExperience working in grassroots human rights organization or advocacyFamiliarity with contemporary US migrant justice issuesFamiliarity with R and/or Python for basic data science tasks: summarize datasets, generate descriptive statistics, manage GitHub repositoriesExperience using software tools to process documents and files (for example, regular expressions, command line tools, advanced text editing)About the TeamThe UW Center for Human Rights is a diverse team of faculty, staff, and students committed to working for human rights and who collaborate with community-based advocacy leaders, policymakers, legal experts and activists from a range of cultural, educational, and linguistic backgrounds.
