Discover your opportunities at Yale!OverviewUnder the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and with a thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical laboratory support functions, techniques, processes to ensure excellent patient care services and research support initiatives. Work in all areas of the Histology laboratory and perform these functions independently. Working hours are M-F 5am – 1pm full-time on-site.As a Clinical Technologist 1, you will support laboratory operations through the preparation, operation, and maintenance of lab equipment and specimens. Your role will involve assisting with daily preparation of various skin samples. You will manage case intake, registration, and accessioning of specimens, ensuring compliance with all HIPAA and safety regulations. Additionally, responsibilities include filing, labeling, and covering slides, maintaining QC logs, and handling all required documentation within the lab's information systems. Effective communication and organizational skills are essential to manage these tasks efficiently and accurately while supporting the team in achieving its goals. Essential Duties: Under general supervision of laboratory manager and according to policies and procedures, perform routine and non-routine activities involving in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists. Process specimens associated with registration and accessioning using laboratory information system. Perform all necessary tasks supporting laboratory operations. Prepare samples/specimens. Tracking, maintaining, and filling patient material/samples. Maintain, organize, distribute, and order laboratory supplies and reagents. Perform daily quality control checks. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of all equipment. Assist laboratory personnel with clinical and research tasks. Ensure compliance with all local, federal and CLIA regulations. Maintain a clean and well-organized work area. Maintains a thorough understanding of technical, procedural, and safety aspects of the department. Evaluates, implements, and practices new methodologies per department guidelines as noted by manager. Analyzes and resolves problems independently as appropriate and as noted by management’s feedback and observation. Demonstrates a strong sense of professional work ethics. Work closely with immediate manager to coordinate clinical or research projects.Required Skills and Abilities1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with superior organizational abilities and attention to detail.2. Ability to multitask and problem-solve in a dynamic laboratory environment.3. Strong proficiency with computer systems, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn new lab software and databases.4. Motivation and initiative in managing tasks independently and collaboratively within a team.5. Proven experience working in a clinical laboratory setting and familiarity with laboratory protocols and safety standards.Preferred Skills and Abilities1. Experience with EPIC and PowerPath systems.2. Formal education in Biology, Cytogenetics, or Genetics, and experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Principal Responsibilities 1. Performs laboratory tests and procedures in such areas as histology, medical technology, cytology, and cytogenetics. Records results. Interprets results of tests and procedures. Makes preliminary analyses of results. 2. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Instructs support staff on laboratory techniques. 3. Prepares specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other matter for analysis and diagnosis using non-routine laboratory techniques. 4. Stains and mounts slides; prepares solutions and media; and cultures tissues. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.
