Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes to monitor a patient’s nervous system activity. They set up, perform and monitor EEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists, neurologists or other doctors. By performing EEG monitoring in this role, you will help to create specialized diagnoses to assist in creating patient care plans as well as help to manage patients with chronic conditions at both Weston Hospital and the multiple ambulatory offices on campus. Caregivers in this role often feel fulfilled and valued for their work and feel as though they are able to make a positive change. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, Monday-Friday and every other weekend and holiday. The team is aligned with the 24x7 operation of the hospital. The schedule is provided a month at a time, and shifts will vary based on business needs. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform routine and complex EEG examinations in the laboratory, at the patients bedside, Intensive Care Units and operating room. Select predetermined electrode combinations and observe patient with video recording equipment. Ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly. Check focus, lighting and microphone. Abstract relevant information from the patients clinical record and obtain additional information. Perform electroencephalographic examinations on patients. Schedule and organize special procedure tests, angiography, X-ray studies, etc. Serve as an instructor for new personnel. Provide training in the interpretation of EEG recordings, applications and the academics of EEG technology. Maintain equipment in clean operating condition and perform proper maintenance. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Completion of an accredited EEG program OR an Associate's Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or related patient care field Registered EEG Technician (R.EEG.T) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross One year experience as an EEG Technician Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Prior experience in a hospital setting Physical Requirements:Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.Personal Protective Equipment:Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
