Job DescriptionThe Role:Our Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) team within GM’s Software and Services organization is responsible for developing, deploying, and releasing control software and calibrations that truly control the whole vehicle. Be it internal combustion engines, hybridized drive units & transmissions, high voltage batteries, or chassis & thermal management, the exciting challenge of inventing new methods to control the world’s best mechatronic systems is never ending.We currently have multiple opportunities in the Chassis Controls organization within VMEC to be an Engineering Group Manager leading a team of engineers responsible to execute a specific area of embedded development including control software design, development and deployment, or system calibration, system test and validation. These teams work cross functionally with product, systems, and program teams to ensure all pieces come together to successfully release quality products on time to support our broad vehicle product portfolio. In this people leader role, as well as having responsibilities for specific areas of technology, you will help develop and lead strategic action plans to support business goals for our inclusive future as we reinvent ourselves from auto manufacturer to a tech company! Are you in? #EVerybodyIn. #IWorkForGMWhat You’ll do:Enable self-organizing, self-managing teams to deliver product on-time with quality executions in an agile environment.Help remove impediments and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvementImplement and support agile principles and practices, identifying and eliminating impediments, and facilitating flowMentor, coach, and develop employees and their careersEstablish and monitor budget for responsible activitiesExecute resource planning for required activitiesModel and foster GM's Core Values and Winning BehaviorsYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a related technical degreeMinimum of 7 years of professional engineering/technical experienceMinimum of 5 years of engineering experience related to embedded control system, calibration, related hardware, and/or safety critical system developmentDemonstrated technical background in chassis controls and/or vehicle dynamicsDemonstrated results in successful project executionExcellent multi-functional communication and leadership skills - able to get multiple teams moving in the same directionDemonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity while driving timely decision makingPossess a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate test vehiclesWhat Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)Master of Science in Engineering and/or Master of Business AdministrationMaster of Science in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Aerospace, Systems or Software Engineering with emphasis in Controls or RoboticsExperience in chassis controls developmentLeadership experience developing or utilizing industry standardsLeadership experience in safety compliance of embedded systemsLeadership of teams of engineers responsible for developing or testing embedded control systems or related hardware in an agile environmentDemonstrated ability to: achieve results through effective teamwork, lead numerous projects with different focal areas to successful completion, and manage and measure work through metrics, data, and resultsExperience managing a global team that is geographically dispersedWorking knowledge of embedded controls development tool set – (e.g. IBM Rational Tool Suite, Jira/Jama, Git ecosystem, MATLAB-Simulink, ETAS)Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Do not apply for this role if you will need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes direct company sponsorship, entry of GM as the immigration employer of record on a government form, and any work authorization requiring a written submission or other immigration support from the company (e.g., H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc).
