Read more: careers.bms.com/working-with-us.The Oncology Thematic Research Center at BMS is a key research and early development engine, responsible for the discovery and development of novel oncology therapeutics for patients.  Centered at our state-of-the-art research sites in Cambridge, scientists focus on novel targets and pathways for tumors that are refractory to current therapies.  With a deep understanding of the causal human biology, we are leveraging our multiple modality platforms to best match the modality to the mechanism and desired outcome.  We are a fully integrated drug discovery through translational and early clinical development organization which exploits state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo models of Cancer biology and Immuno-oncology to identify and validate targets.   We partner closely with colleagues in Translational Medicine, Informatics and Predictive Sciences and Early Clinical Development to generate biomarker and patient enrichment hypotheses to enable efficient decision making in early clinical trials.  We are optimally positioned to complement the world-class translational expertise, biology and leading academic research centers in the area.Our Bristol Myers Squibb research site in Cambridge Crossing will help us continue to deliver on our mission, positioning the company and our scientists in the heart of a vibrant ecosystem of world-class science, innovation, and business opportunities.Position SummaryThe Scientific Associate Director reports to Scientific VP, Head of Translational Research (Oncology) as an individual contributor.  In this role, the candidate is expected to lead translational strategy and execution for early-stage oncology programs, with a focus on biomarker development, patient stratification, and mechanism-of-action and resistance insights. This individual collaborates across internal and external stakeholders to integrate translational science into clinical development plans, enabling data-driven decisions and advancing programs within a highly matrixed, global environment, including blended innovation partnerships.Position Responsibilities In the role as an Associate Director within Translational Research, Oncology, the ideal candidate:Acts as Translational Asset Lead accountable for high quality translational and clinical biomarkers strategy and plan (patient stratification, target engagement, pharmacodynamics, mechanisms of action / resistance) for assigned solid tumor Oncology early clinical development program(s), supporting BMS’ blended innovation initiative.Provides scientific and subject matter expert input and integrates translational research in alignment with clinical development plans / objectives, with efforts in data generation and analyses, interpretation and communication to development team and matrix leadership.Collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders from discovery, clinical, precision medicine, regulatory, medical and commercial functions in advancing the program in a highly matrixed environment. Proactively fosters relationships across disciplines and participates in the decision-making process for completion of team goals in support of R&D portfolio goals.Identifies risks with critical thinking and develops innovative solutions (new approaches, technologies) to solve sometimes novel problems, demonstrating leadership potential.Experience =Basic QualificationsBachelor’s Degree12+ years of academic and / or industry experienceOrMaster’s Degree10+ years of academic and / or industry experienceOrPh.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences  8+ years of academic and / or industry experience4+ years of matrix leadership experiencePreferred Qualifications:  PhD, MD or PhD/MD or equivalent advanced degree in Oncology / Immunology or related fields5-8+ years of industry experience3-5 years comprehensive working knowledge, concept and experience in clinical development, oncology biomarkers and translational research (strategy and implementation)Deep knowledge of current and evolving competitive landscape in Cancer Immunology (multi-specific and T-cell engager)Working knowledge of various technical platforms tailored for clinical biomarkersAuthoring or review of regulatory documentsProven publication track records (manuscripts, conference presentations)Excellent verbal and written communication skillsExperience with external partners and foreign regulations/agencies/clinical research landscape a plusDomestic and international travel as needed#LI-OnsiteIf you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn’t perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway.
