Job Title:Graduate Assistant - Men’s & Women’s Swimming & DivingFull or Part Time:Part timeHours:20Exempt:NoSupervisory Org:Swimming (JM-SE)Job Description:JOB TITLE: Graduate Assistant - Men’s & Women’s Swimming & DivingDEPARTMENT: AthleticsWAGE: $15.52JOB SUMMARYSaginaw Valley State University, a NCAA Division II member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant for Swimming & Diving. The Graduate Assistant will assist the Head Swimming & Diving Coach with the daily operation of the Swimming & Diving program. Responsibilities include supporting recruiting efforts, assisting with practice and competition preparation, coordinating program activities, assisting with team travel and events, and contributing to the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes. This position provides valuable experience in collegiate athletics while supporting a regionally and nationally competitive program.This appointment is for a maximum of two calendar years.Graduate Assistants are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. During the fall and winter semesters, work hours may not exceed 24 hours per week. During the spring and summer semesters, Graduate Assistants may work up to, but not exceed, 40 hours per week. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrate knowledge of and adherence to applicable university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.Assist in supporting compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations, including student-athlete eligibility, recruiting activities, financial aid procedures, scheduling, and academic progress.Abide by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and contribute positively to a culture of NCAA rules compliance.Assist in promoting a positive academic environment that encourages student-athletes to achieve academic success.Assist with practice planning, competition preparation, and other Swimming & Diving program activities as directed by the Head Coach.Provide positive support and encouragement to student-athletes while helping foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive team environment.Assist with community outreach and relationship-building efforts that support and enhance the program.Assist with the purchasing, inventory, distribution, and maintenance of uniforms and equipment.Assist with recruiting activities, including communication with prospective student-athletes, recruiting visits, and other recruiting-related duties in accordance with NCAA regulations.Assist with the development and implementation of training and conditioning activities for student-athletes. Support fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement efforts, camps, clinics, and special events that benefit the program.Maintain appropriate communication with student-athletes and parents under the guidance of the Head Coach.Assist with the planning and coordination of banquets, fundraising activities, team functions, and other events that promote the program.Assist with coordinating team travel arrangements and logistics.Assist with promoting, operating, and coordinating summer camps and clinics.Assist with facilities and event operations as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Events.Perform related duties as assigned by the Head Swimming & Diving Coach and Athletic Administration.Perform other duties as assigned.SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision is received from the Head Swimming & Diving Coach. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Currently admitted to a graduate program at SVSU or eligible and intending to apply upon accepting the offer. Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation. Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.Interest in and ability to assist with recruiting efforts.Ability to manage multiple projects and follow through on assigned responsibilities. Previous participation in, coaching, or support experience with collegiate swimming and diving programs.Experience working with diverse populations and contributing to an inclusive environment.TUITION ELIGIBILITY & TAX IMPLICATIONS: Graduate Assistantships include a tuition and fee waiver of up to 12 credit hours per semester (maximum 30 per academic year), funded by the SVSU central budget. Full-time enrollment (9 credits or more) is required in the Fall and Winter semesters, with minimal exceptions available. Per IRS regulations, tuition waivers may be considered taxable income. Amounts exceeding $5,250 annually are generally taxable and will be included in compensation. Employees should consult a tax advisor for guidance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions. All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan.
