It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!Description of WorkKnowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesThis position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC and houses approximately 1,500 medium and close custody male offenders. Positions in this class direct programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the institution system. Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Positions provide direction to the programs staff in methods and techniques to be followed in carrying out programs. The primary programs areas are offender classification, offender discipline, correctional programs, including incentive wage, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, cognitive based interventions, and recreation; and correctional counseling. Work involves supervision of subordinate personnel who are responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs on a daily basis. Positions are responsible for coordinating programs with custody and other facility staff.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences:Salary Range: $ 43,267 - $75,718Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:· Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures of the Prisons section.· Thorough knowledge of correctional programs and evidence-based practices.· Thorough knowledge of methods and practices of rehabilitative counseling, planning, guidance, and placement.This job posting will close at 11:59 pm, the night before the end date listed above. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions.
