It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.Description of WorkThe primary purpose of this position is to collaborate with para-professionals and licensed professionals to design, fabricate and modify adaptive equipment and devices, inclusive of but not limited to special protective devices (i.e. helmets, arm and leg wraps, cuffs, mittens, restraints, etc…), mobility and positioning aids (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers, bathing/toileting chairs, wedges, belts, mechanical lifts, etc.), prescribed footwear and orthotic devices. This individual will also repair and deliver the aforementioned items as needed or requested and participate in inspection and inventory management of the same. This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesRecruitment Range: $35,596.00 - $62,294.00Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:Basic carpentry skills, basic upholstery skills and good ability to use hand and power tools are necessary for this job due to the fine tolerances needed for special protective device fabrication and modification. Basic arithmetic skills, including the addition and subtraction of fractions and currency.The ability to follow verbal, written and sketched instructions. Good oral and written communication skills. Good organizational and record keeping skills. Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The ability to lift light to heavy loads. Requires basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Experience working with intellectually and developmentally delayed people. Physical Requirements: The ability to lift light to heavy loads.
