Initial Posting Date: 06/18/2026Application Deadline:06/28/2026Agency:Department of CorrectionsSalary Range:$4,558 - $5,995Position Type:EmployeePosition Title:Licensed Practical Nurse, Health Services Technician (Pendleton)Job Description:Licensed Practical Nurse, Health Services Technician (Pendleton)Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution – Pendleton, Oregon Oregon Department of CorrectionsAbout the Job – Your RoleThe Health Services Technician provides clinical, emergency care, and treatment to inmates in a correctional institution performing nursing functions under the supervision and written direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).Providing wound care including post-operative dressings and maintaining aseptic conditionsRecognizing signs and symptoms as they relate to the disease processConducting nursing procedures including treatmentsAdministration of medications, identification of adverse side effects, and appropriate notification of RN or physicianUsing routine equipment such as stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and oxygenProviding first aid and CPRPhlebotomyAssessing the severity of an emergency using triage formatDeveloping a treatment plan for a life-threatening emergency and implementing independentlyDelegating non-nursing duties to unlicensed staff and providing direction to unlicensed staffPreparing accurate written documentation, records of nursing care given, and patient progress notesMonitoring patient's condition including vital signs, intravenous fluids, and medication needsDevelop and execute a teaching program on medical issues for inmates, residents, or nonmedical personnelUnderstand and apply statutes and regulations regarding patient rights and confidentialityAssist with writing Nursing Policy and ProceduresDo an EKG and take appropriate referral actionRespond tactfully with patients who are combative or hostileCommunicate with patients regarding patient's condition and medical proceduresWork effectively with a variety of professional and paraprofessional staffUse proper body mechanics to safely lift and maneuver patients and various medical equipment.This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.Minimum QualificationsTwo (2) years of experience in the care and treatment of physically ill or injured patients, including training and/or experience in pharmacy and medical laboratory techniques and procedures.Special QualificationsAt the time of appointment, possess an Oregon Licensed Practical Nurse certification AND a valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Card.Requested SkillsHygiene, sanitation, and sterilization procedures;Microbiology and disease processes;Nurse Practice Act and the scope of practice as defined by personal license;Nursing practices and procedures;Medical laboratory procedures;Fundamentals of pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition;Health related resources in order to research and develop educational programs articles and resource documents.RequiredA valid driver's license.Application InformationIn the Work Experience section of your application make sure to include the dates and duties of all relevant positions and details to support how you meet these attributes.
