Job Posting Title:Behavioral Health Therapist----Hiring Department:Department of Psychiatry----Position Open To:All Applicants----Weekly Scheduled Hours:40----FLSA Status:Exempt from FLSA----Earliest Start Date:Immediately----Position Duration:Expected to Continue Until Aug 31, 2027----Location:AUSTIN, TX----Job Details:GENERAL NOTESDell Medical School is seeking a Behavioral Health Therapist.JOB SUMMARYThis role supports mental health programs and initiatives developed through the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium, with a focus on improving the quality and accessibility of mental health care for children and adolescents across Texas.The Behavioral Health Therapist (LPC, LCSW, or LMFT) supports children and adolescents enrolled in programs like the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program, which provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provides access to mental health services. Reporting to the Behavioral Health Manager, the therapist delivers counseling and care management services using a patient-centered, collaborative approach with an interdisciplinary team. This position works with program patients, guardians, and schools to improve a child’s overall functioning through evidence-based care. Key responsibilities include conducting behavioral health assessments, formulating and implementing individualized treatment plans, and participating in team-based consultations.This position has an end date of 8/31/2027, but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals. Funding is expected to continue. A flexible working arrangement agreement will be required upon offer. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Clinical Assessment and Therapy Services ● Evaluates and provides diagnostic impressions.● Formulates treatment plan according to evidence-based practices and protocol.● Conducts individual, family and/or group therapy sessions, as needed.● Monitors patients for suicidal/homicidal intent and ensures patient safety, if necessary.● Undertakes crisis intervention, as needed.Maintains Documentation and Compliance ● Participates in all supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks.● Completes documentation in the clinical record related to interaction with individuals-served, families and other service providers.● Ensures documentation is accurate, timely, and in accordance with professional ethics.● Maintains compliance with both federal and state regulations.Coordinates Care and Communication ● Coordinates with referring practitioners, individuals, and family members throughout treatment.● Collaborates with project coordinators and administrative assistants to schedule and manage patient visits.● Participates in interdisciplinary team consultations.● Ensures continuity of care across settings.Engages in Professional Development ● Attends required training workshops, meetings, and client staffing.● Stays current with best practices in pediatric mental health.● Contributes to an environment of continuous learning.● Upholds professional standards and licensure requirements.Other Job Duties may apply as assignedMARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:● Conducts community outreach and mental health education sessions.● Participates in program evaluation initiatives.● Supports grant-funded or pilot program activities as needed. ● Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIESInterpersonal Savvy● Relates well to all kinds of people; builds rapport quickly; listens attentively.● Builds trust with children, families, and school staff.● Navigates sensitive conversations with empathy.● Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams.Compassion ● Genuinely cares about people; concerned about others’ well-being.● Demonstrates patience with emotionally dysregulated youth.● Provides trauma-informed care.● Supports families through difficult diagnoses and transitions.Problem Solving ● Uses logic and data to solve complex problems; anticipates obstacles.● Develops creative treatment plans tailored to individual needs.● Identifies barriers to care and proposes solutions.● Adjusts therapeutic approaches based on patient response.Collaborates ● Works cooperatively with others to achieve shared goals; credits others for contributions.● Coordinates care with pediatricians and educators.● Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings.● Shares insights to improve patient outcomes.Self-Development ● Actively seeks feedback and learning opportunities; improves performance over time.● Attends continuing education and training.● Reflects on clinical practice for growth.● Incorporates new research into therapy.Dealing with Ambiguity ● Comfortable with uncertainty; makes decisions without complete information.● Manages unpredictable behaviors in children.● Adapts to changing family dynamics.● Maintains composure during crises.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Requires a Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field with at least 3 year(s) of experience in● Working with children, adolescents, and/or family systems.● Proficiency in electronic systems including but not limited to Google Suite, Trayt, Athena or Epic, Calendly.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:● Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
