Job Description:Note: Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position.As an Engineering Manager within the Workplace Investing (WI) Platform organization, you will play a critical leadership role in modernizing Fidelity’s Workplace Investing managed account solution, Personalized Planning and Advice (PPA). You will lead the development of a cloud-native Managed Accounts platform, replace legacy systems and establish modern engineering practices at scale.This is a hands-on engineering leadership role, requiring both technical depth and people leadership. You will contribute directly to architecture and implementation in the early stages while building and scaling a high-performing team. Over time, your focus will evolve toward organizational scale, technical strategy, and execution excellence, while maintaining strong technical credibility.Scope and ImpactLead and grow a team of 8–15 engineers (FTE/ contractors) in a matrixed environmentOwn delivery of a strategic platform modernization initiative within WIAccountable for end-to-end engineering outcomes: design, build, quality, and production readinessInfluence architecture, engineering standards, and delivery practices across teamsPartner closely with Product and Architecture to shape roadmap and execution strategyContribute to establishing AI-assisted and spec-driven engineering practices across the organizationKey ResponsibilitiesEngineering Leadership and DeliveryOwn and drive end-to-end delivery of platform capabilities: from architecture and design through production and operationsAct as a hands-on technical leader, contributing to design, code reviews, and critical implementation decisionsLead system decomposition, ensuring alignment with distributed and cloud-native patternsEnsure strong operational readiness: testing strategy, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and reliabilityTechnical Direction and StandardsEstablish and enforce engineering standards across the platform:Contract-first APIsCI/CD pipeline designObservability (logging, metrics, tracing)Code quality and review practicesEvaluate and guide architectural decisions across services, integrations, and platform componentsChampion adoption of AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practicesTeam Leadership and Talent DevelopmentBuild, mentor, and develop engineers and emerging technical leadersCreate a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvementDrive hiring and team composition aligned with platform needsProvide coaching and performance feedback to improve individual and team effectivenessCross-Functional LeadershipPartner with Product, Architecture, and enterprise teams to align priorities and executionRepresent engineering in senior-level forums, communicating technical decisions and trade-offsManage external dependencies and technical integrations across partner teamsTechnical Depth10 years of software engineering experience, including strong expertise in backend systems (Java/Spring or equivalent enterprise stack)Experience designing and building distributed, event-driven systems (Kafka, messaging, microservices)Hands-on experience with cloud-native platforms (Azure preferred), Kubernetes, and modern infrastructure practicesDeep understanding of: API design and lifecycle management CI/CD pipelines and engineering automationObservability and production reliabilityLeadership and Execution3–5 years leading engineering teams, with clear ownership of delivery and technical directionExperience working in regulated, high-reliability environments (financial services or similar)Ability to navigate matrixed organizations and influence without direct authorityDemonstrated ability to: Deliver complex systems from concept to productionBalance short-term delivery with long-term platform evolutionMake architectural and prioritization trade-offsPreferred ExperienceExperience leading platform modernization or legacy transformation effortsFamiliarity with AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g., code generation, spec-driven development)Experience scaling teams during early-stage platform buildoutBackground in financial services or fintech platformsLeadership AttributesBuilds and scales strong engineering teams; develops future leadersMaintains technical credibility through depth and judgmentDrives clarity and decisions in ambiguous environmentsDemonstrates ownership and accountability for outcomesCommunicates effectively across technical and executive audiencesChampions engineering excellence: reliability, performance, and scalabilityThe Value You DeliverBringing passion to your work to encourage and motivate your team.Exemplifying an attitude of constant improvement and enhancement that strives to embody Fidelity’s leadership principles.Mentoring team members to improve their performance, knowledge and expertise.Providing support by removing obstacles and assisting with prioritization when needed.
