Become a maker of possible with us. Summary of Position with General ResponsibilitiesThe following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position.SCOPEThis internship position is for a candidate that is available for part time work (15-20 hrs/wk) throughout the school year, and requires the candidate be local to the greater Salt Lake City, UT area. This in-office internship position in Quality Engineering offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the medical device industry.This position will primarily support new product development projects focused on vascular access devices, which are critical for patient care in various medical settings.This internship will work in a collaborative environment, engaging with a cross-functional team that includes professionals from engineering, manufacturing, regulatory affairs, and marketing.POTENTIAL TASKS AND ASSIGNMENTS1.    Initiates new or revised documentation and tracks through appropriate approval cycles and implementation2.    Maintains a professional working relationship with internal & external team members3.    Participates on cross-functional teams4.    Provides technical support on components, material methods, systems and equipment5.    Assists in developing physical and functional test requirements to assure specifications & regulations are met6.    Writes and reviews protocols, reports and data7.    Conducts testing outlined in protocols and test methods8.    Executes validation studies on equipment & processes9.    Executes design controls10.  Analyzes design inputs11.  Trains on, understands and follows company procedures and regulatory requirements12.  Participates in and provides input to training on department & division procedures, and policies13.  Prepares and presents oral and written project updates and technical discussionsKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:1.    Basic Technical writing skills2.    Basic interpersonal skills – active listening3.    Ability to read drawings4.    Good understanding of engineering principles5.    Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles6.    Ability to perform testing per written directions7.    Demonstrated comprehension of basic descriptive statistics        8.    Basic Software application skills                        9.    Basic problem solving skills10.  Ability to collect and analyze data and derive conclusions11.  Ability to make recommendations to reach a solution12.  Oral and written presentation skills13.  Ability to follow design controls14.  Ability to work independently15. Detail and results orientedBasic Qualifications:Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited university or college pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fieldMinimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 highly preferredProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required: Word, Excel, Power PointStrong communication skillsAbility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlinesAbility to work 20 hours minimum onsite in Salt Lake City, UT location per week.Physical Requirements:This position is in an office and/or laboratory environment and requires the incumbent to sit, stand and perform general office functionsThe incumbent may also be required to lift up to twenty five pounds occasionallyThe incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods of timeBending, stooping and reaching are also frequently requiredAt BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry.
