Nurses do not work when school is closed during winter break,\r\nspring break, and during the summer months. The salary range reflects the\r\n11-month work schedule.\r\n GRADE 17 \r\n LOCATION OF POSITION Maryland School for the Deaf - Frederick\r\nCampus\r\n101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD\r\n21705 \r\n Main Purpose of Job The MSD nurse is responsible for\r\nproviding health care for the students and to act as health care liaison\r\nbetween the parents and the school. This is a school day position. The nurse will be\r\nin regular contact with school staff, teachers, teacher aides, students and\r\nparents/guardians as well as private duty nurses. \r\n POSITION DUTIES Administer medications (via oral,\r\ntopical, inhalation, and injection) as prescribed for medical conditions or\r\ninjuries. Assess, evaluate, and monitor students’ current medical and\r\nemotional health status and identify nursing needs of\r\nstudents. Maintain accurate and adequate records of nursing care and\r\nobservations and treatment according to established\r\nprocedures. Maintain a student health center\r\nfacility. Provide auxiliary duties as needed. \r\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Determined by the Maryland State\r\nBoard of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses. \r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: None. \r\n DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Fluency in American Sign Language.\r\n2. Experience working with young children either in a school or\r\nhospital setting.\r\n3. 1 year of experience in school or community nursing.\r\n LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess\r\na current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of\r\nNursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. \r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which\r\nrequire the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be\r\nrequired to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of\r\nMaryland. \r\n\r\n\r\n3. Employees in this classification may be required to\r\nsuccessfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain\r\ncurrent certification. \r\n SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and,\r\ntherefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at\r\nwhich they can be reached.\r\n2. Employees in the classification are subject to substance\r\nabuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09,\r\nTesting for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n3. Candidates must be willing to learn American Sign Language\r\nand become conversational within two years.\r\n4. New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation\r\nat their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560 –\r\n5-568)\r\n\r\n\r\n5.
