The role is designed to support both the daily operations and long-term sustainability of transfusion services, ensuring the safe and reliable availability of blood products for patient care.During the Blood Bank’s initial growth phase, this position also provides clinical and operational support to Critical Care to meet patient and hospital needs. Over time, responsibilities transition more fully into a dedicated Blood Bank focus, contributing to program expansion, process consistency, and continuous improvement efforts in a collaborative hospital environment.Opportunities to ContributeHelp grow and sustain a Blood Bank program through donor recruitment, management, and ongoing engagement.Own the full blood product lifecycle, including collection, processing, inventory oversight, and distribution to clinical services.Support program quality and advancement through compliance, data tracking, and participation in continuous improvement initiative. Minimum Required QualificationsAssociate degrees in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience, ANDFour years technical experience in a veterinary hospital or referral clinic environment.  The ideal candidate will also possessPrevious experience in blood banking operations in a veterinary medical setting.Six years’ experience in a veterinary medical setting.Licensed as a Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician Specialty.Associate’s degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area.General understanding of/working knowledge of equipment used with a veterinary teaching hospital, including in areas of specialization.Outstanding communication skills and ability to provide exceptional customer service.Computer skills in word processing and data entry.What you need to knowSalary: Starting at $25/hour.Schedule: Full-time / on-site in College Station, TX / Monday through Friday daytime.Please note: Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.What you need to doApply! A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended and will help in our review. You may upload them on the application under the CV/Resume section.    ResponsibilitiesDonor Recruitment & Management: Recruit, screen, and onboard blood donors in accordance with hospital protocols. Coordinate donor scheduling and follow-up to maintain appropriate donation intervals. Maintain accurate donor records, including eligibility, screening, and donation history. Communicate with donor owners regarding appointments, results, and program participation. Support donor retention initiatives and incentive programs.Blood Collection & Processing: Perform whole blood and component collections following established standards. Monitor donor health and safety before, during, and after collections. Process blood products for clinical use, including labeling and preparation. Ensure proper handling and storage of blood products.Inventory Management & Quality Assurance: Monitor blood product inventory levels and expiration dates. Coordinate internal distribution of blood products to clinical services. Minimize waste through proactive inventory management.Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement efforts. Assist with recall readiness and traceability processes.Compliance, Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation related to donor screening, collections, and product use. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Support data tracking and reporting related to donor growth, utilization, and wastage.Collaboration, Education & Program Support: Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to support transfusion-related care. Provide clinical and operational support to the Critical Care service during the initial Blood Bank growth, including assistance with patient care, treatments, and workflow needs as appropriate. Assist with education of staff, students, or trainees regarding donor programs and transfusion medicine.
