If you need assistance or have questions regarding the application process, please contact Human Resources at (702) 895-3504 or unlvjobs@unlv.edu.Job DescriptionThe University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for International Scholar Advisor, UNLV International Students and Scholars [R0152086]ROLE of the POSITIONReporting to the Director of International Student and Scholar Compliance (Director), the International Scholar Advisor (Advisor) is responsible for supporting the Director in facilitating the arrival and regulatory compliance of scholars and students at UNLV. Additionally, the Advisor assists in initiatives to build a supportive university experience in which UNLV international students and scholars can succeed and thrive, working closely with the Sr Director of Student and Scholar Success Initiatives with a dotted reported line.The Advisor provides immigration and regulatory compliance services to the international scholar community by advising international employees, visiting scholars, and student interns on immigration requirements for maintaining status and implementing both federal immigration and internal policies. They also collaborate with the Director to create, document, and maintain business practices for the efficient hiring and retention of international faculty/staff in terms of federal regulations and university policies. They also work with the Director to proactively improve and/or update scholar services as regulatory changes occur. The Advisor processes student and scholar immigration requests and coordinates permanent residency petitions with an outside attorney. The Advisor must work collaboratively with university offices including the colleges, academic advising units, Academic Affairs, Human Resources, and Student Life to optimize international students and scholars' experiences and promote UNLV's international mission. In particular, the Advisor works closely with leadership on scholar programming work, to develop robust scholar programs to promote belonging, ease transitions to life and work in the U.S., and provide key resources and information to enhance their stay. This includes assisting with programs to increase admission and retention of international students and scholars at the university. Finally, the Advisor leads special projects assigned by the Director. The Advisor must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident in order to comply with the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State regulations.All positions in Academic Affairs contribute to our core mission: to increase enrollment and promote equitable student success. With administrative faculty positions, some evening and weekend work may be necessary and there may be occasional travel.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThis position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in order to also serve as a DSO for the unit, and 1-2 years of professional experience.
