Job DescriptionDepartment:Baseball - StaffPay Rate Type:HourlyEmployee Type:Job Summary:Colby is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and has 28 intercollegiate sports that compete at the Division III level, and 4 programs (men’s and women’s Alpine and Nordic Skiing) that compete at the Division I level. The department also hosts a variety of club and intramural sports. Over one-third of Colby’s 2,000 students participate in intercollegiate sports, and in total, nearly three-quarters are involved in fitness and recreation activities in the department.The Colby College Department of Athletics is seeking an assistant baseball coach beginning July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027. The assistant baseball coach’s responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all duties involved in running a competitive Division III baseball program. Colby College supports the Americans with Disabilities Act and is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. This list of duties is intended to be representative rather than exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.Serve as the pitching coach for the baseball teamOn-site coaching in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practicesPrepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team membersPlan and prepare for gamesContribute to strength and conditioning program including one-on-one strength and conditioning work with student athletesProvide support and encouragement to student athletes including academic counseling and advisingMonitor academic progress of athletesRecruit and retain talented athletes successfullyResearch academic and athletic credentialsBuild relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone, and one-on-one meetingsOrganize and implement overnight visitsUnderstand NCAA rules, compliance, and lawsEnsure safety and well-being of student athletesServe as an effective role model for college-age studentsProvide effective communication to head coachCollaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team membersServe as a coordinator of team travelAssist with day-to-day operations of the baseball programSecondary assignment to be determinedPerform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without noticePosition Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experiencePrevious experience coaching and or/competing at the collegiate level is highly desirableCommitted to the values of a liberal arts educationStrong attention to detail and a commitment to deliveringMust be organized, take initiative, and utilize strong time management skillsProven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environmentValid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirementsAbility to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting in and out of stateStrong positive communication and interpersonal skills with all levelsExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to excel as a member of a diverse communityPhysical/Mental DemandsThe physical demands and work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this position and/or may be encountered while performing essential functions.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.To perform this role effectively, an employee is expected to handle employee information, documents, and sensitive matters with care, professionalism, and respect for privacy.This position involves working with a variety of timelines, including some that require quick turnaround and responsiveness to urgent needs. In this role, the employee will interact with members of the public and others in a variety of situations and conversations.
