Department:ICE | LPSL CPATH ChemistryDepartment's Website:Summary of Job Duties:A Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory tests and conducts analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids and other biological samples to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Enters results in electronic medical record and performs quality controls to verify accurate test results. Maintains and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technician from a regionally accredited school or program that is recognized by ASCP. Eligible to take the ASCP or equivalent certification board exam as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Must pass the exam within 1 year of hire or eligible date. Preferred Qualifications:Previous clinical laboratory experienceASCP certificationAdditional Information:Job Requirements:Set-up, maintain and operate lab automation systems used to process samples.Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in analysis such as spectrophotometers, analyzers, microscopes, slide stainers, diluters, and computer controlled high volume analyzers, mixers, rotators, pipettes.Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment used to perform testing.Maintain equipment used for personal protection and safety such as eyewashes, safety showers, biohazard containers, hoods, chemical cabinets and personal protective equipment.Maintain temperature dependent equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, heat blocks.Conduct analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids and other biological samples to determine presence of normal and abnormal components in assigned section(s).Perform quality controls or quality check materials and perform corrective action as required.Enter test results and other data related to analysis and communication of results into relevant computer information systems or other document archival systems.Provide technical information about specimen collection, sample transport, sample identification, required documents, test methods and other related technical information to RN, physicians or laboratory clients.Use laboratory computer systems to order tests, generate results, generate reports, document results and communications, interpret results, and other lab duties related to inventory, testing method verifications and quality control.Perform other duties as needed.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSStand: FrequentlySit: FrequentlyWalk: OccasionallyBend, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop or reach overhead: FrequentlyLift and carry weight: 25 lbsPush and pull weight: 25 lbsUse hands to touch, handle or feel: FrequentlyTalk: ContinuouslyHear: ContinuouslyTaste or smell: OccasionallyRead, concentrate, think analytically: ContinuouslyPhysical Environment: Inside Medical Facility EnvironmentNoise Level : ModerateVisual Requirements: Color discrimination, Depth perception, Far visual acuity, Near visual acuityHazards: Biological, Chemical, Dust, Electrical, Fumes/Gases/Od
