We have a mission that matters!Description of WorkThis position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Alexander Correctional is a closed custody male facility with approximately 1,000 offender beds. This position reports directly to the Correctional Programs Director I. The position provides and supervises programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system. They are accountable for development, implementation, and maintenance of one or more major and broad programs for inmates. The primary programs areas are offender classification; correctional programs including work release, incentive wage, study release, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation, and correctional counseling. Key Duties:- Communicating effectively with other staff, offenders, and the general public whether verbally and/or written. - Defending oneself against attack by violent offenders and working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.- Conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.- Demonstrating and instructing offenders in the proper safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. - Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation. - Performing crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention.- Training, observing, evaluating, and supervising effectively subordinate staff in their duties and responsibilities. - Accounting for supplies and equipment, developing, implementing, and managing Correctional Programs.- Monitoring off site programs, which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe and secure manner at any time of day and in varying weather and road conditions.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesSalary Grade Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions.
