We have a mission that matters!Description of WorkThe purpose of this position is to teach content focused on improving basic skills in core mathematics areas through individual, small group, and whole class instruction, providing targeted remediation and enrichment as needed. The intent of this position is to deliver direct math instruction to offenders aged 18 to 22 to support their attainment of a high school equivalency diploma.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesSalary Grade: Based on NCDPI Salary ScheduleSalary to be determined by qualifications and years of experience within a range of $49,200 to $84,948. Because this work requires flexibility and investment, candidates with top instructional skills and a strong work ethic will find greatest success and opportunity.This position is located within the academic school at Foothills Correctional Institution, Morganton, NC (Burke County).Reporting to the School Principal, the Math Teacher is a core member of the academic team responsible for implementing and monitoring the school’s vision, mission, values, and goals. The teacher must be skilled at organizing and delivering math curriculum to groups of students of all ages, creating a flexible program and a learning environment that supports each student’s abilities and personal growth within a minimum and close custody male correctional facility. The teacher will also perform any additional duties assigned by the principal.Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Designing math lessons and materials using best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned to Common Core, College and Career Readiness (CCRS), and NC standards, adapting instruction for students with varied maturity and academic levels using verbal and visual teaching methods.Providing group and individual instruction informed by formative and summative assessment data to meet individual needs, encourage active and appropriate participation, reach academic goals, and support students’ transitions within school, the correctional system, and back to the community.Setting and enforcing student behavior standards that enable effective classroom and school participation and align with the schoolwide behavior plan.Collaborating with teachers and other school personnel on student caseloads and effective instructional strategies.Compensation for all certified educators working for NCDAC in school educator positions is based on the NC Department of Public Instruction’s Salary Schedule. This schedule is approved annually by the NC General Assembly and sets pay based on the educator's years of experience and education level.
