This is an excellent opportunity for a pricing actuary who wants to do more than run analysis. In this role, you will serve as a key business-facing actuarial partner, work directly with underwriting leaders on strategy, and help shape decisions on portfolio performance, pricing direction, and where the business goes next.What makes this role compellingHigh-impact actuarial role supporting Nationwide’s Professional Lines business and pricing strategy.Meaningful partnership with underwriting and business leaders, with strong visibility into strategic decisions.Opportunity to work across a specialized set of commercial insurance products rather than a narrow, repetitive assignment.Exposure to both core actuarial pricing work and forward-looking modeling initiatives as the team continues to evolve.What you will doLead actuarial pricing analysis and strategy support for Professional Lines products and portfolios.Act as a primary actuarial point of contact for underwriting leaders, helping connect analysis to business strategy and portfolio decisions.Perform and communicate actuarial analysis in a way that supports changes to the book, pricing recommendations, and broader business decisions.Partner across actuarial and business functions to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and influence next steps.Support modeling-related work over time, particularly as future projects develop across the team’s portfolio.What we are looking forStrong actuarial pricing experience in Property & Casualty insurance, with the ability to work independently and operate as a senior business-facing partner.Professional Lines experience is strongly preferred.Ability to communicate effectively with underwriting leaders and other business partners, not just perform technical analysis.Strong actuarial foundation in technical tools such as Excel, SQL, and Python.Strong plusesBackground in a smaller carrier or similarly hands-on environment where you have needed to work broadly across pricing, strategy, and technical analysis.Modeling experience, especially for candidates who can pair pricing expertise with broader analytical or predictive-modeling capability.Experience with Python, R, or similar coding tools.The kind of person who will do well hereThis role is best suited for someone who combines strong pricing judgment with business presence. The ideal candidate can understand the product, speak credibly with underwriting leaders, work with a high level of independence, and translate actuarial analysis into practical strategic guidance. Additionally, you’ll have expertise to provide consultation and recommendations on deliverables and maintain detailed documentation of actuarial models and analyses. You’ll work independently and may lead others.Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities:Acts a technical expert of actuarial methodologies allowing the ability to source and manipulate data within standard requirements.Conducts complex analyses, adhering to actuarial standards, by selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, recognizing considerations and developing recommendations. Accountable for resolving unreasonable results/non-optimal solutions using experience and professional judgment. Begins using results to influence decisions at a higher level.Accurately documents assumptions, methods, sources and considerations in an organized fashion.Prepares and presents actuarial findings and documents that are suitable for technical and non-technical audiences at the senior Actuarial leadership level. May professionally represent company's position with regulators, auditors and external vendors. May negotiate within defined parameters.Develops cross functional work plans and ensures accurate work product is delivered.Leads cross functional peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work and drive innovation.Builds business relationships and leads cross functional communication with team members, customers and business partnersLeads onboarding and training for new associates on standard work processes. Assists in creating new training materials.Applies data mining techniques used to identify new relationships in data and make recommendations based on findings.
