Department:ICE | NRSL Med Onco Trans E7 IP CDepartment's Website:Summary of Job Duties:This posting will be used to fill multiple positionsThe Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in E7 Medical Oncology/Transplant Unit. E7 Medical Oncology/transplant Unit has 28 private rooms and provides state of the art therapies, including stem cell transplant, to a wide range of medical oncology patients. Practicing in this environment allows the registered nurse to develop skills in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, management of a range of IV central access devices and a variety of symptoms associated with the disease and/or treatment, and the development of skills in emotional support and palliative care. A strong interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers who support the patient in their various therapies.Qualifications:Required:  High School Diploma/GED.Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.  Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability. Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.Preferred:  Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsmanPatient care experience in acute care setting.Additional Information:Responsibilities:Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.Follows through on delegated patient care activities.Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.May perform other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements:Constant Physical Activity:Hear, Read, Concentrate, Think Analytically,Frequent Physical Activity:Stand, Walk, Talk, Use hands to touch, handle or feel,Occasional Physical Activity:Sit, Bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, Taste or Smell,Lift/Carry Weight: 100 Lbs. or morePush/Pull Weight: 100 Lbs. or morePhysical Environment: Inside medical FacilityNoise Level: ModerateVisual Requirements: Near Visual
