You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.A Day in the LifeAs a Controls Engineer at Medtronic, you are the primary technical expert responsible for designing, optimizing, implementing, and validating automated manufacturing processes. You will troubleshoot complex electromechanical failures, ensuring that high-speed production equipment—from simple relays to advanced servo robotics and machine vision systems—operates at peak efficiency while adhering strictly to regulated quality standards.Onsite: At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We’re working a minimum of 5 days a week onsite as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.Must Have: Minimum RequirementsTo be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident in your applicant profile. Requires a Baccalaureate degree and 0 years relevant experience.Nice to HaveExperience with industrial automation platforms such as Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs, including associated HMI or SCADA systems (e.g., FactoryTalk, Ignition).Strong proficiency in PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic and Structured Text, including implementation of sequential control logic.Experience troubleshooting industrial networks and communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP (CIP), Profinet, and Modbus TCP.Experience designing and implementing electrically safe industrial control panels using relays, contactors, and various I/O modules, including integration of dedicated safety circuits.Exposure to robotics, motion control systems, or automated manufacturing equipment.Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments such as medical device, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries.Knowledge of electrical schematics and experience using electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.Familiarity with industrial sensing technologies and automation components.Exposure to Lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, or continuous improvement methodologies.Basic scripting or programming experience that supports automation or data workflows (e.g., Python, C#, MATLAB).For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.Physical Job RequirementsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.
