The Animal Resources Center is responsible for managing three centralized animal facilities as well as some of the smaller satellite locations.UT Austin offers a competitive benefits package that includes: 100% employer-paid basic medical coverage Retirement contributionsPaid vacation and sick timePaid holidaysPlease visit our Human Resources (HR) website to learn more about the total benefits offered.PurposeThe Animal Resources Technologist I will provide veterinary technical support for research, clinical, anesthesia, and surgical procedures critical for the care and use of research animals.ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities of this position include: Responding to health concerns and performing health assessment and observation for signs of disease or illness in rodents as well as a wide range of other species .Maintenance of medical records.Administration of treatments/ medication under the supervision of the veterinarian.Other responsibilities may include: Provision of hands-on training for research staff under the supervision of the veterinarian.Anesthesia and surgical support for researchers and veterinary staff.Cleaning and maintaining surgical suites and clinical supplies.Sterilization of instruments and surgical pack preparation.Documentation and other records for the veterinary group.Collection and preparation of diagnostic samples to maintain health of existing colonies.Required QualificationsHigh School graduation or GED.Ability to maintain detailed medical records and communicate effectively.Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and the ability to multi-task. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsTwo years of experience in a laboratory animal facility or veterinarian clinic.Experience in animal anesthesia. Certification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science OR registered Veterinarian Technician (RTV) license.Experience as a Veterinarian Technician or Health Technologist. Experience with lab animals; handling, dosing, and anesthesia. Driving RequiredThis job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
