Scheduled Hours40Position SummaryProvides direct patient care and education for patients receiving treatments, examinations, surgeries, etc., in a medical office according to established procedures.Work schedule and shifts: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.Clinic overview: Nurse will be required to support providers in clinical setting. Nurse will be responsible for patient scheduling, OR scheduling, testing, medications and other others, patient education, pre-operative and post-operative care in an outpatient setting. The section has clinics in multiple locations and the nurse will be responsible to attend different clinic locations based on provider needs. This is a fast paced and high volume section, that prioritizes patient care and positive outcomes for patient satisfaction. Additional duties would include patient triage, answering phones and EPIC messages, routine patient follow through and other administrative tasks associated with nursing staff. Team structure and interactions: This is a large team that supports multiple providers in multiple locations. The team consists of MAs and RNs both supporting providers in different aspects of patient care. Would require communication and collaboration with team and other members within the department of surgery. Day-in-the-life snapshot: Administrative role will include patient triage and daily phone call, patient results, and any other patient concerns. The nurse will be responsible for supporting the providers with any clinical decisions, within the nurse scope of practice, as well as assist the MAs for patient needs that are outside of the MA scope of practice. The nurse will be a liaison between the patients and faculty and will be responsible for ensuring patient’s care is handled appropriately both pre- and post-operatively. Clinically the nurse will assist the providers with patients seen in the office for in-office procedures, patient education, surgical education, staple removals, wound and ostomy evaluations and education.Job DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities: Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care.Provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in services such as CPR as required.Performs other duties as assigned.Working Conditions:Job Location/Working ConditionsNormal office environmentExposure to blood-borne pathogensRequires protective devicesPatient care settingDirect patient care settingPhysical EffortTypically sitting at desk or tableRepetitive wrist, hand or finger movementOccasional lifting (25 lbs. or less)EquipmentOffice equipmentClinical/diagnostic equipmentThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
